ENERGY AWARDS – 2 WINNER  Award

Nea Odos received two top Winner Awards in the context of Energy Awards 2023. One winner in the category Transportation Infrastructure for all “green” actions and activities it plans and implements and one more for the unique investment in the MSS of Malakasa-Seirios, where the first and biggest BEVs charging station was designed, manufactured and operates on a pilot basis, with photovoltaic panels at the roof of the parking! This is a truly innovative “product” for the driver of an electric vehicle which materializes our commitment to be the best possible co-driver! Presently, the project consists of Photovoltaic panels (PhP), of a total capacity of ~500 kWp, 2 DC high voltage chargers in each branch, i.e. a total of 4 chargers, each of a capacity of 120kW and hybrid Ιnverters. The current moves from the PhP to the charger when a car is charging during the day and in parallel, the energy not consumed, is directly used in order to cover energy needs of the Motorists Service Station (MMS in Seirios). Our next target is to cover the energy needs of charging exclusively from RES.

GREEN AWARDS – Gold & Bronze Awards

Nea Odos, was awarded a Gold award in the category “4 wheels product” for the innovative hybrid charging station for BEVs with green energy from the sun, which it has implemented in the Malakasa Motorists Service Station (MSS –Seirios) and a Bronze award in the category “Green Holistic Approach” for all actions it implements for the protection of environment. From the first day of its operation, Nea Odos set the protection of environment as its main strategic objective, as well as, as one of its main pillars on which the individual actions of Sustainable Development are founded. In this context and with regard to innovation and new technologies, it designs and implements a series of actions which prove in practice that it is the “greenest” motorway of the country.

IOT AWARDS – Gold Award

Nea Odos was awarded the Gold Award in the category “Transportation/Motorways” for the use of IoT technologies in the motorways it operates, maintains and manages. The said award concerns two actions that prove in practice, that we design and implement investments driven by innovation and concerned:

  • The network of online cameras at selected sections of the motorway, where with the use of artificial intelligence hazardous movements are automatically detected and the Control Centre is immediately informed in order to ensure the most direct possible intervention.
  • The Automatic Irrigation System, which extends to a network of almost 200 km, via which the pump stations and the central irrigation points of the motorways are controlled, covering not only the increase needs of water-planting, but in parallel by saving aquatic resources and reducing energy consumption.”

MOBILITY AWARDS 2023 – Motorway of the year top distinction plus 2 Golds, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Award

A top distinction for Nea Odos due to the full range of services & projects implemented promoting high quality services with green operation, and protection of the environment.

  • Gold award in the Motorways Customer Service category for our action in the electromobility sector at the Malakasa Motorist Service Station (Sirios), the Tour microsites, and the electronic card for disabled persons. At Nea Odos and Kentriki Odos, providing the highest possible level of service is a non-negotiable priority for us, and one which we approach in a holistic way through a wealth of actions. The hybrid electric vehicle charging station at the Malakasa Motorist Service Station is an innovative investment, perfectly aligned with the continuously increasing number of electric cars in Greece. At the same time, the Tour microsites are the best “navigator” for any driver who wants to discover the sights of the regions that our motorways cross. Lastly, through the electronic card for disabled persons, all Disabled Parking Card holders and War Disabled can pass through the tolls on our motorways free of charge. The second Gold referred to the sum of green actions of both companies, which aim at protecting and promoting the environment, and harmoniously incorporating the motorways into it. Recycling organic waste, charging electric vehicles via PV at Sirios, and the green vehicle fleet are just a few of the initiatives that make us the greenest motorways in Greece.
  • Bronze award in the EV Charging Infrastructure category for the electric vehicle hybrid charging station at the Malakasa Motorist Service Station (Sirios). At Sirios, we created the first and largest electric vehicle hybrid charging station in Greece by using PV panels on the parking space covers, thus combining the production of green energy and charging electric cars. This project includes: The construction of covers for the car parking spaces, installation of PV panels on them, with a total capacity of approximately 500kWp, 2 high-power DC chargers at every branch, namely, a total of four 120kW chargers each and hybrid Inverters. The power travels from the PV panels to the charger when a car is charging during the day and at the same time any energy that is not consumed from charging vehicles is used directly to cover the energy needs of the Malakasa Motorist Service Station building.
  • Silver award in the Green Fleet category for replacing our vehicle fleet with electric / hybrid vehicles. With the motto “Go Green” and with the aim of drastically reducing direct air pollutant emissions from our company vehicle fleets, the two companies have started to dynamically implement the plan for gradual replacement of the fleet with hybrid and electric vehicles.

HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARDS 2023 – WINNER & Bronze Award

A winner distinction in the Transportation Infrastructure category for all the actions and activities planned and implemented relating to employee Health and Safety. Indicatively, we would like to mention that i) we reorganised and expanded our random spot checks on Health & Safety issues ii) we carried out an overall replacement of the toll booths at Afidnes & added metal shielding to the toll booths at Klokova, increasing safety levels, while significantly improving working conditions for our people iii) With the aim of enhancing the mental health and well-being of our people, we moved forward with a partnership with Hellas EAP, creating and providing a specialised counselling programme for all employees and their dependants.

A Bronze award in the Behavioural Risk Initiative category regarding our partnership with Hellas EAP, which resulting to the creation of a specialised counselling programme for all employees and their dependants. Often, the challenges we face due to the object of our works, combined with the speed and exactness with which we must respond, significantly increase the pressure an employee may feel during their shift. Indicatively, we should mention that in 2021 alone we were called upon to handle almost 40,000 incidents that fall within different categories, with an average response time of 6 minutes for Nea Odos.
